Found at New York Magazine’s The Cut, fashion blog, via The New York Times, Michelle Obama briefly chatted with reporters about her husband’s, el presidente’s, reaction to her clothes:
“He’s always asking: ‘Is that new? I haven’t seen that before.’ It’s like, Why don’t you mind your own business? Solve world hunger. Get out of my closet.”
She teasingly imitated him: “You didn’t need any more shoes. The shoes you had on yesterday were fine. Why can’t you just wear that for the rest of the presidency?”
And this one from the actual NYT article:
WASHINGTON — Reporters are not the only ones with a particularly keen interest in what Michelle Obama wears. Her husband, Mrs. Obama says, notices everything. In fact, she has learned not to wear a certain gray metallic belt when the president is around.
“Barack calls it my ‘Star Trek’ belt,” the first lady said in an interview this week. “He doesn’t understand fashion.”
I enjoyed the “solve world hunger, get out of my closet” line. For some reason it reminds me of the one time Mama Snob bought herself a new dress for Papa Snob’s birthday and said him seeing her look fierce in that dress was his present. Then she danced around the living room to Robin S.’s “What I Do Best” as he had this look on his face like he really, really, really wanted to turn the TV back on to the NBA or golf or NASCAR.
Married people are funny.
