Oprah: Getting A Little Too New Agey For the Jesus Crowd?

Crusing the Web for a break on all things Michael Jackson related and I found this story on Black Voices caliming that Oprah had denied Jesus as the only path to God. Suddenly the Scooby Sense in my brain went “Ruh-Roh!” knowing this was NOT going to go over well with Oprah’s Christian base and a majority of black folks.

More story and video after the jump.

A new video which features popular talk show host Oprah Winfrey denying Jesus as the only way to God has received over 5 million views on several reporting video sites.

The approximately seven-minute video entitled, “The Church of Oprah Exposed,” was posted less than a month ago and has claimed the a Top Favorites spot in the News & Politics category of a popular social networking site …

(T)he ‘new age’ philosophy the video attributes Oprah with spreading has been a cause of concern for many Christians for some time. Many believe the day-time host is leading many into spiritual confusion by distorting the gospel message of Christianity.

One pastor likened Oprah’s ‘many ways to God’ approach as a ‘blind man’ drawing close to the edge of a dangerous cliff. “She holds the trendy idea that religions are essentially the same,” writes Steven W. Cornell, a Pennsylvania-based pastor.

“She irrationally romanticizes the notion that God can be whatever you want him/her/it to be,” Cornell continues to write.

During the video, viewers are shown a clip of a previous show where Oprah blatantly denies Jesus as the only way to God. “How can there be only one way to heaven or to God?” Oprah asked the audience. When asked by a woman in the audience, “What about Jesus?” Oprah responded, “What about Jesus? There couldn’t possibly be one way.”

The video’s primary focus seems to be targeted at Oprah’s recent Webinar class, where she is promoting Eckhart Tolle’s new book entitled, “New Earth.”

So … who thinks this is a big deal and who doesn’t? On one hand you have those who believe Jesus Christ is the only way to God who are not going to be pleased. But, on the other hand, if you believe in a different religion, faith or you’re an atheist you might feel better-to-indifferent about it. OR, if you’re like me and you think a lot of the hocus pocus Oprah believes in is crizzap no matter how she feels about Jesus (re: She could have said Jesus was the way, but as long as she’s still shilling “The Secret,” I ain’t buying), maybe you’re just rolling your eyes going, “OH, OPRAH!”

I remember watching a similar youtube video about two years ago. At the time it worried me and turned me off to Oprah because I was a Christian. The comments on the video from Christians were not positive–many stated that they were washing their hands of her because she denounced Jesus. I could definitely see a widespread Christian boycott of Oprah happening. I don’t think that’s fair, however. The Oprah Show is not a Christian show and she is not responsible for anyone’s spiritual confusion.Personally, now that I’m faithless, I’m inclined to agree with her. If indeed there is a higher power that loves us all unconditionally, I believe that higher power wouldn’t exlude so many by only affording one method to heaven/salvation/eternal happiness.

  3. "The Secret" is when I decided that Oprah as a little out there. But what she says about there possibly being more then one way to heave and/or to God I feel is very true. Even though I beleive in Jesus being my personnal savior, I just can’t see how this is the only way. Think of all the people in the world who do not believe in Jesus but live in a Jesus like fashion can they never get to heaven? And how about all those who profess to believe and do unthinkable things in our world? I am with you on the point that I would not believe Oprah if she ever came out and said Jesus is the only way. I wish she would go back and do more acting and less of what she is doing now (telling people what to read, what to think, how to be) she was wonderful in "The color purple"

  6. "The Oprah Show is not a Christian show and she is not responsible for anyone’s spiritual confusion." – EXACTLY!Thanks, @BuenaventuraAvenue.Not everyone is Christian (and not every non-religious person is atheist). Oprah is what she is. If we continue to look to celebrities for guidance, we’re going to be seriously disappointed. Just like they taught us in university, sort your information. If it’s irrelevant to you and what you’re doing, move on.

As a black public figure it seems that she has to believe in Jesus an Christianity. This is old news if you really knew or listened to Oprah. At the end of the day I don’t think it matters. If people choose to walk away from her because of this so be it. Oprah definitely didn’t say these things to please anybody, only to open minds. Also I can’t watch the video on your site :(. Says it was removed.

  8. so she’s not a christian…..

  9. I love Oprah’s show and the Eckhart Tolle book made me look at life in a completely different way. It’s a good read. The book isn’t for everyone but has helped me and I do believe in God and Jesus. Oprah is not a perfect person no one is, so we shouldn’t take every word she says as gospel but you have to admit she is an extraordinary human being.

Well I think organized religion is absolutely ridiculous and in many ways is no different then Gangs. My click is better then yo click, endless violence over imaginary territory, eroding the community they exist in (visit any hood ghetto or project and there will be a minimum of three churches per block).Black folk need to remember or read up on their history and how our Black People first got indoctrinated with Christianity, our slave masters told us NOT TO WORRY!! Your life may be horrendous now, but just be a good little slave and you’ll get your salvation after you die! Praise the lord! As Bishop T.D. Jakes put it "Black Folk have been conditioned to pray for heaven while living in hell on earth" and it has permeated into the modern times creating the perfect environment for an endless cycle of poverty and a lack of education.I find that many who are religious are as un-godlike as you could imagine, casting judgement on others, determining that all others who don’t follow your religion are damned, subjugating women its absolute buffoonery. If you were born in Afghanistan you’re gonna believe that Allah is the only god, if you were born in Tennessee you’re gonna believe that Christ is your lord and savior, if you were born in Israel you’ll be a Jew and think that you’re one of God’s chosen people…..so to say that there is only ONE singular path to heaven is an incredibly narcissistic perspective and yet another demonstration of how much religion is more about the Folly and pettiness of man, then it is about God.Steps off her soap box lolSo yea, I think all this Christian outrage toward Oprah is a joke to put it lightly.

I am a Christian, and I don’t think Oprah has been relatable in that way for some time. I think she’s an oustanding woman but I do think these statements, her enthusiasm for The Secret, and various other comments and beliefs over the yrs have been off putting to her Christian base and slowly pushing that part of her audience away for some time. Doesn’t seem as if it’s making much of a collective impact. As for the issue at hand–more than one way to make it to heaven–scripture offers an answer for Christians (John 14:6), but at the same time I don’t knock anyone for their views or think my beliefs are better than anyone elses, including Oprah’s. I don’t think she ever set out to please any one group of ppl. It’s all a matter of what one chooses to believe (including what heaven is and how to get there) and that’s everyone’s own perogative.

Oprah’s position is rational and logical, of course. If you’re a Bible-based Christian, you believe Jesus is the only way to "salvation." These Christians simply won’t accept Oprah’s views, and you just have to let them believe what they want. You can’t change them.

As a closeted Oprah watcher [I guess not now!] I have seen her talk about her faith in a way that I think many people do. She will have someone on about a new age theory, and relate it to her journey with God. I see nothing wrong with that — I think God would be alright with it too. I agree with the earlier poster that her show isn’t like Joel Osteen or the 700 Club. Its not Christian, she just happens to believe in God in some way, shape, or form. Now if Joel denounced Jesus — its time to get the pitchforks out . . . .

Okay honestly-Since when is Oprah the number one spokesperson for Christianity?Who cares?!?! The Oprah Winfrey show is not a Christian talk show and does not claim to be!

  17. Isn’t obvious? She secretly believes in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. It’s okay Oprah. As a fellow pastafarian, I won’t judge you. Ramen

  18. I too believe in Jesus and in the New Testament, He states that ‘He is the way’. I believe Him. Having said that, I believe Oprah is a Christian and she has said on her show that she reads the bible. Oprah has put herself in a position where she has to celebrate a broad view point on religion, and she umbrellas the topic under ‘spirituality’. If you read the Sermon on the Mount and the beatitudes, I believe this MIGHT be the route that SOME people (non Christians) get inTo Heaven. Read it and you will see. I’m not positive but this is a good and reasonable speculation.Regardless of whether there are buddhists, Muslims, etc. is irrelevant in my view. The Holy Spirit brings to life and proves without a doubt EVERYTHING Jesus stated in his earthly ministry. Those are the facts, whether you’re a believer or not. The Holy Spirit is as real as the air we breathe. Mature Christians know this. Baby Christians, non Christians, atheists don’t get this, because it’s a PERSONAL relationship with the creator.Jesus preached about faith, charity and hope. FAITH in God; CHARITY to your fellowman; HOPE for the future. In my view, Oprah’s life exemplifies all of this, while many ‘so-called’ Christians, not so much. In fact, some ‘so-called’ Christians are down right FAITHLESS, NON CHARITABLE AND HOPELESS.In my view, Oprah is a Christian.God Bless.

  19. I’m christian, albeit a bleeding heart liberal christian, but I don’t see the story here. Oprah, as well as anyone else, has a right to believe as they wish. Now, there are probably 700 club members mad because she didn’t represent their point of view and is therefore evil… but watcha gonna do?

  20. uhhhh…..i’m not a bible scholar or anything like that, but if you’re going to call yourself a christian…..isn’t Jesus Christ being the ONLY way to the Lord kind of not up for debate? i meant it is called CHRISTianity for a reason here. she can believe what she wants, and call herself what she wants. that doesn’t make her what she calls herself or believes.

Being pushed that whole "Jesus is the only way to heaven" swill is what pushed me right out of Christianity. (Technically I was never really in it, since I wasn’t raised in a church, but anyway…)I never could grasp the notion that just because they couldn’t or wouldn’t accept Jesus, millions of non-Christians were in hell. I didn’t get it at 18 and I still don’t get it 25 years later.Oprah sounds like she might go the way of that guy who had to leave his pastorship (sp?) because he decided he didn’t believe in hell anymore. I’d much rather have his (and her) version of Christianity than one that’s designed to make me feel superior to non-Christians and then give me justification to make war on them. (Because that’s what it’s REALLY all about. Isn’t that what all mass organizations are really about? "We’re" better than "them"?)

  22. BuenaventuraAvenue Avatar

@SistaOpinion I think you’re referring to Carlton Pearson. He now preaches the "Gospel of Inclusion" which states that when Jesus was crucified he died for EVERYONE not just those who accept him, thus all are saved and heaven bound, thus there can be no hell. I already defined myself as a Christian only in the sense that I was trying to be Christ-like when I heard about him. Hearing about the Gospel of Inclusion eventually pushed me away from Christianity entirely.

  23. First of all, I just wish Oprah would stick to something non-spiritual such as deep thoughts that way no one is offended whether they profess a religion or not. Also, Oprah represents a growing number of false teachers who will provide people with itching ears the doctrine they want to hear versus what they need to hear. Everyone wants that feel good gospel where we’re all going to Heaven anyhow. If Oprah did not want to represent the gospel correctly, then she needs to leave anything dealing with Christianity alone. The root word of Christianity is Christ believer. If you do not accept Christ as the Son of God, the gospel that I read says you’re going to Hell. Does God want anyone to be lost, no, but some openly reject Him. Now, some may find that offensive, but that is the doctrine that I believe. People such as Oprah will deny that Jesus is the way because they want to believe that they can control all things and get to Heaven on their own works. (Note: In all fairness, there are some people in church who believe that their works will get them to Heaven, and Christ will say, "I do not know you."). Second, why do we find it surprising that mainstream Hollywood rejects Christ period? Look at all that is put in front of you, and is given justification. We see oversexed entertainers who are idolized by millions. We are in a society where it is okay to behave promiscuously and it is considered empowerment. Meanwhile, those who profess Christ are given the labels of being close-minded, and out of touch. I just believe that when God was actively removed from society period, that was our greatest downfall as a nation. The sad fact is even though Oprah will lose some viewers, she will continue to flourish because ANYTHING goes.

  24. Jaddadalos Avatar

Just my initial thoughts on the topic:This is totally not shocking to me. [standing] I too am a closet Oprah watcher [support group crowd says "hello, Jaddadalos"] and it has been so clear for the last 10 years that Oprah has rejected Jesus as the only way to God. As a Christian, it is clear that the Bible does not put "the way to God/heaven" up for debate. It does not mince words. John 14:6 says, "Jesus answered, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." There are other passages that address this as well. So, any interpretation otherwise is putting a person spin on what the Bible already sets up as fact. Oprah is drawing conclusions based on her own logic, not what the Bible says.Without going into apologetics, it is just all around important to remember that we are not God. We can’t look at the hearts of people around the world. No one here is determining who is going where anyway, so to decide what is what from our finite understanding and reject people without love or compassion is wrong in the first place. I believe what is written in the Bible and that is what I go by. It is not a "perfect science" in my practicing Christianity either – I screw up… a lot… that’s the way it’s gonna be (i try…). At the end of the day, God done said what he said and will do what he has promised he’ll do. Whether you believe/accept that is up to us individually (He said that too).side thought: any issues with the Bible itself is another convo and I encourage the exploration of the history and research (especially by scholars/researchers who initially rejected the validity of the Bible), rather than a rejection laced with "white men", "out dated" and/or reduced to one of many moral guides.

Watch black people cast the 1st stone lol you know, we’ll be the 1st ones who’ll raise hell on this woman. If thats her belief, it is what it is. Frankly, I don’t cater to the "Jesus is the only way" crowd either. I’m a muslim, but I don’t walk around parading "Allah is the only way" to people. And it never ceases to baffle me how "some" African American take such nagging pride of a religion that enslaved and exploited them to begin with and STILL turn around and show racial pride at the same time, talk about BIG screaming contradiction.

  26. we all know that you could marry a one-legged lesbian woman with five kids in the black community and your family would be more accepting than if you denounced Jesus as the Son of God.Black folk need to check themselves before they check Oprah–we’re no better than the Religious Right in a lotta respects.

  27. ^^^^^^of course you won’t cater to "jesus is the only way." you’re a muslim. but if you’re a christian, then you have to believe that "jesus is the only way." no if, ands or buts. the christian faith has about as much to do with slavery as islam has to do with terrorism. is it the people or the faith? let’s use our noggins and not our emotions here.

  30. what does that have to do with what oprah said? does that change the fact that jihadist are doing things in the name of islam? if you’re going to cast stones at christians, your muslim house better not be made of glass. again. the faith or people? does that change the fact that christians believe that the only way to God is through Christ? no. that’s the fundamental tenet. if you don’t believe that, you’re not a christian. period. there’s no interpretation, no double meaning to that. you’re not a christian, so of course you won’t believe that.

I’m not casting stones, I’m stating the stone cold facts here, if it doesn’t sit well with you refrain from reading my posts. Simple. And for the record, being a Christian doesn’t prevent you to question your faith just as being a muslim doesn’t prevent me of questioning mine.God didn’t create intelligence in us so we could end up repressing it.

  32. a whole heap of bad things have been done in the name of religion. each and every single one. just because you’re choosing to ignore in order talk about "terrorist christians" doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. nor does it change the basic beliefs of each one. you can question your faith, but there are basic tenets in order to be in that faith. believing in Christ is one of those. if you don’t believe that, you’re not a CHRISTian. it’s called that for a reason.

  33. Harlepolis Avatar
    Harlepolis

each and every single one. just because you’re choosing to ignore in order talk about "terrorist christians" doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. True. I don’t deny it or ignore it, but every culture and religioun pales in comparision when it comes to the wrongdoings that people made in the name of "Christ".Most famous of them, is the kidnapping of Africans who still choose to follow that path knowing SO WELL that its the reason why they’re completely detached from their land. As you already know. All for the sake of "praise the lord and pass the ammunition", I guess.I’m not trying to be disrespectful here, again I’m being honest.

  34. does that change the fact that you can’t be a CHRISTian without believing in Christ? stick to topic. blame the practioners, not the faith. unless you’re ok with people thinking all muslims strap on bombs to blow up market places because they’re supposed to kill the "infidel.".

  35. Harlepolis Avatar
    Harlepolis

"does that change the fact that you can’t be a CHRISTian without believing in Christ?"When did I say that? lol We TOO believe in Christ as well, in case you didn’t know. But Christ was a human, a prophet indeed but STILL a human,,,,NOT god.If you believe that "Jesus is the only" way, where does that leave God? And since you guys believe that god created you in his own image, that mean human intelligence is not exempt from that equation. God is ONLY ONE, prophets are many.Which brings me back to my point earlier, believe what you want,,,,but you have to question and analyze it before you commit yourself to "blind belief".

  36. if I were Chrisitan I wouldn’t say "Jesus is the only way"uhhhh? sound familiar? it’s a CHRISTian belief, one that i wouldn’t expect someone who wasn’t christian to understand. just like the Holy TRInity. (The Lord, The Son, The Holy Spirit). These are christian basics and tenets that a christian has to believe in order to be a christian. some things are up to interpretation, and as i’ve said numerous times, these aren’t one of those things. i’ll repeat myself again, just so you can fathom it.we don’t believe the same things, so nuances in the muslim faith i’m not going to understand or agree with. that’s kind of the way this whole different religion thing works. get it? plenty of christians analyze the bibles teachings. but if you don’t believe that Christ is the only way to the Lord, then you’re not a CHRISTian. there are plenty of other faiths in the world that one can believe in.

  37. I’m a Christian and an Oprah watcher and magazine reader. However, Oprah has been heading toward that New Age, Jesus isn’t the only way kick since that "In the Spirit" segment she used to have and with her introduction to Gary Zukav ("Seat of The Soul") about 10 years ago. When it comes to spiritual talk, I just tune her out because nobody that confused can enlighten me in any way.

  38. Harlepolis Avatar
    Harlepolis

Yes, I still stand by my "Jesus Is NOT the only way" statement,,,,,,that doesn’t mean Christians don’t have to believe in the Christ himself, THE PROPHET. Don’t get confused here. The "only way" statement is entitled for the divine being (alone). You don’t have to be Christian, Jew or Muslim to comprehend that, thats why AGAIN you need to question these laws and basics . And contrary to what you’ve been taught, ALL orthodox Jews Chrisitans and Muslims pray for the same god, the only difference lay in terminology. So yes, you do have differences,,,but we share alot of BASICS too. I don’t have to be Christian to point that out.

I agree with a lot of the other comments already up. 1. Oprah’s questionable beliefs have been obvious for quite some time.2. Oprah’s relationship with God shouldn’t dictate anyone else’s.

  40. The is a mistaken notion by nonbelievers, atheists, Muslims that the ‘religion of Christianity’ enslaved and exploited Christianity. WRONG. It was sinful humanity that enslaved people of African descent! Key word: sin.The bible teaches that win live in a fallen world because the very nature of man is sinful. When Jesus defended the prostitute, no one in the crowd threw the stone because ALL man is imperfect and ALL sin. No one is perfect. Jesus died on the cross for our sinful nature.Yet millions of people do not believe Jesus’ word because it uncomfortable and inconvenient. For it far easier to wallow in sin than to be committed to the righteous teachings of Jesus. The Holy Spirit validates his ministry as THE TRUTH.No other religion can claim the truth because of this: The Holy Spirit is literally ‘God with us’ for those that truly know Jesus. Case closed.Jesus said: ‘narrow is the path’ to Heaven and ‘wide is the gate’ to Hell which is fact. As I read these posts, I understand that so many humans are in denial about the truth of Jesus. He died for our sins.I used to have doubts, too, but THANK GOD, I’ve been saved by grace. IGod Bless.

  41. are you slow? reading comprehension isn’t your strong point is it? to CHRISTians, Jesus Christ IS a divine being (and i know i’ve said the words "to christians"). for CHRISTians, his path is the ONLY way to God. you can’t wrap your mind around it because you’re not a CHRISTian. that is ONE basic tenet that judiasm, islam, and CHRISTianity do not share. there goes that whole different religion thing, again. i guess maybe the word different should be highlighted if you don’t understand. read it again, if you’re not able to follow.

“What you think today may not be the measure of your thought tomorrow”Once upon a time we believed the earth to be flat, and if we walked to the horizon we would fall off into the unknown but the evolution of time and knowledge brings forth a new consciousness and we are made aware of an altered truth. I wouldn’t consider myself an Oprah fan but I do watch her show on occasion but I haven’t seen this particular episode. Oprah is entitled to her opinion just as we are entitled to agree or disagree with it. Foremost Oprah is a journalist and from what I have seen of her shows, she has the tendency to bring forth topics or ideas to challenge our beliefs and make us think more deeply, opening us up for an evolution in consciousness. I am not religious but spiritual and because of my spiritual beliefs I totally understand where Oprah is coming from. We are already children of God so Jesus is not the only way he is an example of the path to enlightenment just as Buddha and Mohamed where. I read the Bible but from a metaphysical point of view. Christ comes from the Greek Christos meaning the anointed; Webster’s defines Christ as an ideal type of humanity and the ideal truth that comes as a divine manifestation of God, it doesn’t mention anything about Jesus. Charles Fillmore’s metaphysical bible dictionary defines Christ as “a name, or title, applied to Jesus of Nazareth. Jehovah of the Old Testament is the I AM, or Christ of God invisible; the Messiah is the promise of the visible manifestation of the I AM or Christ, and Jesus the Christ is the fulfillment in man of that original spiritual I AM, or Jehovah.Christ is the divine-idea man. Jesus is the name that represents an individual expression of the Christ idea. Jesus the Christ is the form of the name that is commonly applied to the man of Galilee who demonstrated perfection.Christ is the one complete idea of perfect man in Divine Mind. He is the embodiment of all divine ideas, such as intelligence, life, love, substance and strength. In the architect’s mind there may be one masterpiece, but that masterpiece is the sum of all the beautiful ideas that have come to his mind. The Christ or perfect-man idea existing eternally in Divine Mind is the true, spiritual, higher self of every individual. Each of us has within him the Christ, just has Jesus had, and we must look within to recognize and realize our sonship, our divine origin and birth, even as he did.”Jesus taught his followers like all the other prophets before and after him that there is a power in man that gives him authority over the things in the world. The way is to look within unifying with our higher spiritual self through our thoughts and our words.

To call urself intellegent, learned or enlightened in any capacity you must have to admit to the fact that no ONE person has got it right or wrong. Read a book on theology or the history of religion and then come back to me with a conversation about Christianity and (pastor voice) JE-sus being the only way to peace, salvation or spirituality. I kno more wayward Christians than anything else. Personally to call urself intellegent is to kno that religion for the most part is BS…and if ur gonna believe…do it with eyes wide open to the origination and blatant "hokus pocus" of that in itself. Oprah’s the most influential, loving, giving "celebri-diety" we have so anything she comes up with…I’ll give a listening ear. And then decide for myself. I think it’s important to know that just as Oprah’s beliefs are questionable, so are the beliefs of everyone else, including Christians. Shouldn’t we all continue to question our belief systems to better understand our God? Isn’t that the reason why we are thinking beings? Oprah’s departure from this core of Christianity being a problem at all just shows how as Black folks we expect Christianity to be our default, and any Afam who doesn’t agree is the one with the problem. That’s where we need to make the shift. Not all Black people are Christians, and some of us are not waiting for Salvation and that should be okay.

  47. clearly you are, because you have yet to grasp the simple concept that FOR CHRISTians, Jesus Christ is the only way to the Lord. if you don’t believe that, you’re not a CHRISTian. muslims don’t believe that, jews don’t believe that, buddhist don’t believe that, and that’s ok. it’s ok to believe other things. that’s one of the things that makes us different. once you grasp that simple concept, then you might be able to contribute something instead of just saying silliness like "if i was christian, i wouldn’t say Jesus is the only way."

I’m an atheist. I used to be agnostic, until I read scripture (NRSV). My readings included translations of pseudoepigraphs based on written copies of variants of oral traditions (New Testament), post hoc oral justifications of tragic events that were translated from Greek, Hebrew to English (prophets), and copies of copies of copies of transcriptions of oral stories that originated from ancient polytheistic (!!) Middle Eastern cultures (Pentateuch).I actually enjoyed the stories. After reflecting on how they have been and are used, I stopped believing in deities.I find humanistic principles in all faiths, even "Christianity". Provided that Yeshua ben-Joseph really existed (I reject divinity & certainly the Trinity), the non-Pauline words that have been attributed to him (Yeshua didn’t say nan’ word) are valid guiding principles. As was his ICONOCLASTIC, NON-CONFORMIST role in society. It’s a shame what christians have done to his teachings. It breaks my heart to see black folks braying like jackasses regurgitating interpretations that have been packaged in a Roman, Italian, French, English, to American version specifically to circumscribe and destroy the mind. Tthere is a book on ancient versions of Christianities that you may be interested in by a theological scholar Bart Ehrman called Lost Christianities. If you don’t like Oprah fine (I can’t take it myself). But I don’t find her psychobabble any less relevant or more ridiculous than this:"Yet millions of people do not believe Jesus’ word because it uncomfortable and inconvenient. For it far easier to wallow in sin than to be committed to the righteous teachings of Jesus. The Holy Spirit validates his ministry as THE TRUTH."It is far easier to wallow in ignorance and self-righteousness and listen to some guy in a nice suit tell you what to think than to study first century ce history, the development of the concept of the Holy Spirit, the historical Jesus, the many versions of Christianity that have and continue to exist.

I love Oprah’s willingness and courage to put spiritually deep thoughts out there. As a minister, I think we as Christians need to grow up anyway on that DOGMA. Jesus spoke Aramaic so the often quoted John verse needs to be unpacked. I will say, I’m in good company on this blog because when D put this out there I was like. . . ."here we go". Isn’t it funny that the very Jesus we supposedly represent as Christians are the quickest to attack?I know Buddhist, Muslims and Universal Truth Students of various other faiths that represent the content of Jesus with their life rather than the container of church with the dogma.

  50. This whole situation sounds kinda wonky to me. Last I heard, Oprah was a scientologist. I’m not a big fan of Scientology and dont belive in it, but if thats what gets you through the day and makes you a better person, more power to you. I’m not felling this so-called "expose" either. Its one thing if youre a christian and you feel oprah has betrayed you in some way, so you no longer listen to her. Thats your choice and entirely up to you. But at the end of the video, they start throwing around conspriracy theories connecting her to Obama and the government. Sounds a lot like the whole "Obama is the antichrist" rumor they were pushing during the election. It’s one thing if you dont like oprah for what she said personally, but apparently they are still playing this "guilt by association" game to sell books. So, for the record:Obama is now a-Crazy Racist Christian,-Terrorist Muslim, and-Antichrist Scientologistall rolled into one. When your lies constantly cancel each other out, maybe its time to take a coffee break and figure out what your official story is going to be.
