In a case of it’s always funny until someone gets killed we have the odd case of one Bill Sparkman, a teacher and part-time census worker in rural Clay County, Kentucky. He was found, dead, of apparent homicide on Sept. 12 in a remote part of Daniel Boone National Forest, hanging from a tree. The word “fed” was written on his chest. His truck and computer were found nearby. He’d been doing door-to-door interviews when the incident happened so all door-to-door interviews in the county have been suspended. The FBI is investigating the death.
From the Associated Press:
Investigators are still trying to determine whether the death was a killing or a suicide, and if a killing, whether the motive was related to his government job or to anti-government sentiment.
Investigators have said little about the case. The law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the case and requested anonymity, said Wednesday the man was found hanging from a tree and the word “fed” was written on the dead man’s chest. The official did not say what type of instrument was used to write the word.
FBI spokesman David Beyer said the bureau is helping state police with the case.
“Our job is to determine if there was foul play involved – and that’s part of the investigation – and if there was foul play involved, whether that is related to his employment as a census worker,” said Beyer.
As horrible as this incident is I sincerely hope it isn’t what I think it is and part of some new wave of anti-government fueled violence. Time will tell what’s the reality in this case, but if that’s the reality this story is doubly disturbing and disheartening.
